3 Reasons For Hair Loss, And How To Solve It!

Updated: Jun 12, 2023

You started your search for the answer to Covid-19 related hair loss.

And there's lots of information out there.

But what if I told you it is a foundational issue? That you needed to begin at the basics--your personal foundations--and rebuild from there?

It's true!

Your hair, skin, and nails are an indicator of how healthy--or unhealthy--you are at a deep, underlying level.

What Causes Hair Loss?

Hair loss, as we just mentioned, starts at a deep, foundational level.

The foundations of our body can be likened to the foundations of a home. You wouldn't want your home to have the very foundation, or bedrock, to be weak, would you?

Or worse, to be crumbling beneath your feet?

So if your hair is thinning or falling out, your body needs help at a deep, foundational level.

And don't believe the prevailing idea of, "Well, it's just a normal, aging process"... Incorrect! Why do we have to accept large amounts of hair left on a pillow every morning? Or gobs of hair in the shower drain? Or handfuls of hair in your hair brush? None of these things are "normal". And you shouldn't accept them as such! This is where Naturopathy and a nutritional protocol, such as SHAPE ReClaimed, shine. Working with a practitioner trained in Traditional Naturopathy, your systems can be supported.

So if your hair is thinning or falling out, your body needs help at a deep, foundational level.

What Organ Systems Need Help and Support?

We have established the underlying cause of hair loss is nutritional.

Now we need to understand what Organ Systems need nutritional support if you're going to regrow your hair.

These systems are:

  • Nervous Systems (Brain, Spinal Cord, Nerves)

  • Respiratory Systems (Trachea, Bronchus, Lung, etc.)

  • Endocrine System (Pancreas, Pituitary Gland, Thyroid, Adrenals, Ovary, Testes, etc.)

  • Cardiovascular and Circulatory Systems (Heart, Blood Vessels)

  • Lymphatic System (Red Bone Marrow, Thymus, Spleen, Tissue Drainage)

  • Integumentary System (Hair, Skin, and Nails)

  • Skeletal System (Bones, Joints)

  • Muscular System (Cardiac, Smooth Muscles, and Skeletal Muscles)

  • Digestive System (Stomach, Liver, Small and Large Intestines, etc.)

  • Urinary System (Kidney, Ureter, Bladder, etc.)

  • Reproductive Systems (Prostate Gland, Penis, Testes, Mammary Gland, Ovary, Uterus, Vagina, etc.)

And how do we support them?

  • With Herbs,

  • Homeopathy,

  • and a nutritional protocol

Here at Powerful Natural Health, our Naturopath recommends the SHAPE ReClaimed Nutirional Protocol as the first step towards healthier hair. Because once you're on the SHAPE ReClaimed Protocol, you will experience:

  • improved physical health

  • improved mental health

  • and improved hair growth.

Reason #1--Major Illness (like Covid-19):

Did Covid-19 Cause My Hairloss? If Not, What Is To Blame?

Hair loss can be a symptom of

  • major illness (like Covid-19)

  • starvation

  • low-functioning thyroid

  • hormone changes.

When your brain thinks you’re starving, or have experienced a major illness (again, think: Covid-19) the vital organs--which are your brain, heart, and liver-- are fed first, and whatever is left goes to less vital areas. Less vital areas include your hair, skin, and nails. This is why having a regular urinalysis while on the SHAPE ReClaimed Protocol is incredibly important. It allows our Naturopath to spot starvation and make changes before it becomes a problem.

Before your body begins to react in disconcerting ways.

Reason Number Two--Starvation Diets

Have you ever been on a diet in the past in which you literally, not figuratively, but literally starved to death?

Remember the Grapefruit Diet? This was a diet back in the day which encouraged its followers to eat only grapefruits until you reach the desired weight.

Or how about the Celery Diet? This diet actually required more calories to chew and digest the fibrous vegetable, than it provided! We call this a negative caloric intake. T

Talk about deprivation!

Consequently, when a body is put under this sort of dietary stress, it creates an environment of famine.

And in order to survive, your body "Robs Peter to Pay Paul".

In other words, your body will take nutrients it would normally use to feed a particular organ system or bodily process, and reroute it to the vital organs, like the heart, brain, muscles.

And one of the first systems to be tasked with sacrificing itself is the Integumentary System (Hair, Skin, and Nails).

Unfortunately, this process results in hair loss, brittle nails, and thin, dry skin.

Reason #3: Low Thyroid

What If My Urinalysis Doesn't Show Starvation?

While on the SHAPE ReClaimed Program your Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Carrie, will perform weekly urinalysis tests to ensure there are no indicators of starvation.

However, your hair has not regrown.

Or even worse--your urinalysis shows no starvation, but you continue experience hair loss.

Now what?

The culprit may be a low-functioning thyroid. The symptoms of a low-functioning thyroid include:

  • cold hands and feet

  • low body temperature

  • fatigue

  • low libido

  • poor sleep

  • headaches

  • difficulty swallowing

  • weight gain

  • and mood swings.

How to Test for a Low Thyroid at Home

Here is an easy test to see if your thyroid needs a boost:

1. Upon waking (before getting out of bed), place a thermometer in your armpit.

2. Wait for 10 minutes with a mercury thermometer (or a beep with a digital thermometer), and then record the temperature.

3. Do this every day for three days. If your temperature is below 97.8 degrees, you may be dealing with a low-functioning thyroid.

Notify Dr. Carrie of your thyroid test findings and she will give you several recommendations, which will include starting a supplement regimen to address this issue.

Bonus Reason: Hormones

How Hormones Play a Role in Hair Loss

For peri-menopausal and menopausal women, it is common to experience thinning hair as hormones decline.

This is often associated with excess fat on the triceps, indicating an imbalance between progesterone and estrogen.

Again, notify Dr. Carrie if you are a woman who is experiencing the hair loss issues encountered during hormone changes.

Within her natural health arsenal of herbal and homeopathic remedies, she has several supplements to help restore balance and hair growth.

If hair loss was an issue before beginning the SHAPE Program, please make this known to Dr. Carrie so she can make adjustments.
